Considered the entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas is preparing to welcome yet another architectural and technological grandeur to its landscape: the largest spherical structure in the world.

Baptism of MSG Sphere, the venue will be the newest address for major shows and events in the region and is expected to open by the second half of 2023.

Located just one block away from the Las Vegas Strip, A busy avenue that is home to most of the major hotels and casinos, the arena is located within the grounds of the luxurious The Venetian hotel.

Fancy numbers

Dubbed the largest sphere in the world, the numbers are impressive: official information details that the structure will be around 112 meters high e 157 meters wide, and that will be covered by approximately 54 thousand m² of LED panels fully programmable, which will form the largest LED screen in the world.

An LED screen inside the sphere, which wraps around the stage from above and behind, will cover an area larger than three football pitches and will have a resolution promised to be up to 82 times better than today's HD television sets.

The premise is that the visitor experience will be fully immersive. A 160,000-speaker audio system uses beamforming technology that will provide “targeted, crystal clear and consistent” sound.

The venue will be equipped with multi-sensory technologies such as immersive seating, aromas and temperature changes.

There will be about 17,500 seats, including 10,000 seats and a capacity to accommodate up to 20,000 people, in addition to 23 VIP suites. “The Hollywood Reporter” estimates that the construction of the MSG Sphere will cost about US$1.8 billion.

Construction of the grand sphere began in 2019. At the end of May this year, MSG Entertainment, the group behind the project's design, announced the completion of the site's steel exosphere, the project's primary structure.

The space aims to bring together a range of entertainment content, ranging from shows, product launches and sporting events.

The sphere is expected to open in the second half of 2023 in time for the Las Vegas GP, Formula 1 race that will take place in November.

The event will be held at night around the Strip, when, according to the circuit design, the cars will compete for 6 km and pass next to the MSG Sphere and other iconic landmarks in the city, such as the Bellagio, Caesars Palace and The Venetian hotels.
